Neck and Spine Injuries

Has a work injury left you with a serious neck or spinal cord injury?

Herniated Cervical Disc
A common cause of neck, shoulder and arm pain is a ruptured or herniated cervical disc. Symptoms may include dull or sharp pain in the neck or between the shoulder blades, pain that radiates down the arm to the hand or fingers, or numbness or tingling in the shoulder or arm. Certain positions or movements of the neck can intensify the pain.

The symptoms of a cervical herniated disc often resemble other disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome. In some patients, a cervical herniated disc can cause spinal cord compression where disc material pushes on the spinal cord. This is a much more serious condition and may require a more aggressive treatment plan. Spinal cord compression symptoms include awkward or stumbling gait, difficulty with fine motor skills in the hands and arms, and tingling or “shock” type feelings down the torso or into the legs.

A serious spinal cord injury will affect every aspect of your life, at work and at home. From a bulging disk to a severely ruptured or herniated disk, many back injuries affect can affect the spinal cord and even require surgery.

There are a variety of workplace accidents that can lead to a neck or spinal cord injury. The important thing is that you get the workers' compensation benefits you need. Depending on the demands of your job, you may have been injured in one of the following accidents. We can help you evaluate your claim:

* Slip and Fall
* Falling Objects
* Car Accident

If you have received surgery previously to your cervical spine, such as a "fusion" or "laminectomy", sometimes your work activity can aggravate or re-injure the cervical spine where the original surgery was done. You may need additional surgery. If the company doctor says your current injury not related to your job now and the employer/insurer won't provide this surgery, you should seek another opinion. Putting off treatment and surgery, if necessary, can result in years of unnecessary pain and disability.

One of the hardest parts of being injured on the job, and especially with a spine injury and risk of re-injury, is figuring out when to return to work. We will help you through the entire workers' compensation process, from the moment you are injured until the moment you are fully recovered and ready to return to work.

Whether you suffered a herniated disc or paralysis, a workers' compensation lawyer can answer your questions and help you understand your rights after your neck or spinal cord injury.
